About
The manufacturing industry is under increasing pressure from politicians and consumers to operate in an environmentally friendly manner by producing in a resource-efficient and low-emission manner. Companies are required to implement sustainable production concepts. Together with the companies 3BOTS and Peiseler the RWTH Aachen University work in project "BioME" on a new machine systems for plastic-based additive manufacturing. We investigate how can the use of plastic be made even more sustainable with AM, especially in industry applications. The focus is on both an efficient and support structure-free component design and the use of bio-based materials in pellet-based material extrusion. A multiaxial plant system with a pellet extruder will be developed to increase material output and the efficiency by building up the part in multidirectionally. This should enable sustainable additive manufacturing using the example of automotive equipment manufacturing and show the potentials to big area printing in an economic and ecological way.
